It’s time to eat and you’re hungry, but where to go? Houston’s dining scene is quickly becoming a hot spot for both fine and casual dining, so whether you’re dressed to impress or just looking for a quick bite, Houston has a hot or cold plate for you!

Don’t get us wrong, Houston has a plethora of options for any palette. And as tough as it was, I’ve narrowed down the extensive list to three of my very favorite choices to recommend to you. Check out three of Houston’s top can’t miss restaurants.

Authentic Japanese Dining

Serving up traditional Japanese sushi and sashimi since 1996, we have Kaneyama Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar. While Houston has many options when it comes to sushi bars, Kaneyama is known for its authentic dishes and casual, laid back atmosphere. Kaneyama also offers diners the option to enjoy their numerous rolls and pieces in a private tatami room, which is traditional Japanese seating where guests sit on tatami mats, sans shoes.

This dining style is nothing like a night of take out in your condo!

Plating Innovation

If you are sick of looking at the walls of your kitchen and need a night of inspired dining, then head out of your condo and over to Strata Restaurant and Bar. Strata is a newer venue in Houston where chef John Ly works to create dishes that exemplify contemporary American cuisine, featuring fresh seasonal produce and high quality ingredients. Also unique to the restaurant is the wine list that was chosen to complement each dish.

Strata is a great place to spend a beautiful Houston spring evening, sampling fabulous wines and dining on dishes like braised short ribs or potato wrapped sea bass on their outdoor patio.

The Finest and Freshest Dining

How about trying a dish from acclaimed chef Bryan Caswell? This 2010 James Beard Award nominee and 2009¬†Food and Wine’s Top 10 Best New Chef has set up shop with Reef, his seafood inspired restaurant and has been extremely well- received by the Midtown Houston community.

Chef Caswell has created a menu that celebrates all creatures from the sea, served in playful dishes such as their lump crab lollipops or snapper Carpaccio.
